RECORDS BROKEN AT BARELLAN

One of the largest crowds ever gathered at Barellan saleyards saw records tumble on Friday 2nd Feb at the Annual Barellan & District Breeders FX Ewe Sale. The top price achieved was $376 for a line of FX ewes 1.5/2.5 yrs, Jun shorn, SIL @ 144% A/C KW & DM Studholme, sold to Matt Robertson, Leeton, C/- Breed & Hutchinson. A second run of FX ewes 3.5/4.5 yrs SIL @ 176% to Jim & Caroline Maskus, Albury, C/- Brian Unthank & Co.

The top price pen of ewe lambs was A/C McDonald Farming for 325 hd, Mar/Apr 17 drop, Oct shorn @ $314 to Duncombe & Co Crookwell; the 2nd draft of 141 ewe lambs for McDonald sold for $288 to Daunt Partnership, Naradhan.

Flagg Family Trust was awarded the ribbon for the Best Presented Pen of Ewes, sponsored by SJ Tonacia & Co of Mount Beckom Stud. Their 1st draft of 183 hd, Mar/Apr drop, Oct shorn, mulesed & Gudair vaccinated sold @ $310 to Duncombe & Co, Crookwell; the 2nd draft of 227 sold @ $286 to Spring Creek Pastoral.

SJ Tonacia “Mount Beckom” sold an outstanding run of rams to a full field of buyers with the top 2 rams selling to Overs Partnership @ $1950.  Runs of pens made $1800, selling to DG & HJ Foy and Mamari Pastoral Co, along with solid support from local district breeders.

White Suffolks

A& M Dissegna “Warburn” sold 2 rams @ $1600 to DG & HJ Foy, as well as rams @ $1600 to MH Stockman, Gubatta and Wilkin Grange Partners, Merriwagga.  Mitch Hawker “Warrick Park” sold 2 rams @ $1600 to Fixter Family Trust, Yalgogrin North and 2 @ $1600 tp KW & DM Studholme, Weethalle.  Irvin Bros “Cooee” sold 2 rams @ $1250 to DF Stewart & Co, Ardlethan.

BARELLAN 1ST X EWE SALE 3RD FEBRUARY 2017

1st X Ewe lambs topped at $276 at the Barellan Breeders sale held last Friday 3rd February. The consistent quality of the yarding was evident in the fact that several pens of ewe lambs surpassed the $270 mark.

HG & EA Loudon “Roseneath” Weethalle sold 123 ewe lambs to top the sale @ $276. The lambs were purchased by Duncombe & Co Crookwel l A/c K Skelly.

The “Best Presented Pen” of ewe lambs was awarded to McDonald Farming on the day. Their lot of 230 lambs sold for $274, again to Duncombe & Co, Ac Carrawongy Past Co, a repeat buyer at Barellan for many years now.

McDonald Farming also sold their 2nd run of 125 lambs to Rawlinson & Brown Griffith A/c N Ellis & Co Binya for $260.

Other market highlights included Overs Partnership “Lyndale” – 229 ewe lambs @ $271 sold to Duncombe & Co Crookwell A/c Wongadee and Mt Gay.

Flagg Family Trust “Townswell Park” – 220 ewe lambs @ $270 to MD & JJ Anderson Crookwell Ac Westbank.
DG & DA McDermott “Erin Vale” – 267 ewe lambs @ $270 to Mark Flagg Livestock & Property A/c Daunt Partnership Naradhan.

The sale was interfaced with Auctions Plus this year providing a wider scope of buyers to the physical auction. Online buyers were active on several lots on the day.

However the market strength came from several tablelands buyers who attend the Barellan sale each year to source ewe lambs heavy enough to join.

Other buyers attended from Naradhan, Cootamundra, Yerong Creek, Wagga and Coleambally.
A total of 3359 ewe lambs were sold to a market average of $248 per head, an outstanding result for local breeders.

The sale was conducted by Findlays Barellan and Mark Flagg Livestock & Property.

Generous sponsorship was provided by the Tonacia Family – Mt Beckom Border Leicester Stud.

Border Leicesters – SJ Tonacia “Mount Beckom” sold an outstanding run of rams topping @ $1600. A second draft sold @ $1400 to Quade Moncrieff A/C Louden, with another 2 rams @ $1300 to DG & HJ Foy, and a single ram @ $1300 to Landmark Griffith A/C Litchfield.

Griffith Prime Sheep & Lamb Market Friday 26th August 2016

Mick Apps “Hillcrest” Ungarie pictured selling the top price pen of lambs at Griffith on Friday 26th August. The top draft of 46 old lambs made $215, with the 2nd draft @ $202. Mick and Ida also consigned their 1st draft of 2016 suckers making $154. The Apps family have for many years consistently sold lambs in the top rung of prices, with this draft creating records for the Ungarie farmers.

Congratulations also to DJ & MR Duncan “Tyrell Park” Ungarie who sold 37 top quality suckers @ $170, and an outstanding run of 69 heavy weight ewes @ $145.

 

Charity auction raises $16895

Charity Auction

This photo was taken at the Griffith Prime Sheep & Lamb market on Friday 12th February.

On the left in the photo is Mick Apps “Hillcrest” Ungarie, who co-ordinated an appeal to raise money from sheep donated by producers for cancer sufferer Brad Connellan, Ungarie. 122 sheep and lambs were sold at the Griffith Livestock Selling Centre during February, raising a total of $16,895 to assist Brad with his fight against a rare form of cancer. Brad and wife Nene have two young daughters Shelby (4) and Izzy (2).

To the right of Mick Apps in the photo is Leeton farmer Milton Hoysted; Milton coordinated/donated this pen of 29 lambs that sold at the Griffith saleyards for $170 and all proceeds will be donated to Breast Cancer Awareness.
We don’t know who owns the pink bra!

 

Results of 2016 Annual Barellan FX Ewe Sale
2015 FX Ewe lambs make $230

The top 1st X ewe lambs made to $230, but there were only 5 pens making over $200/hd, as a smaller crowd competed on a quality yarding on Friday 15th January. Repeat buyers from Crookwell, Cootamundra and Wagga districts underpinned the top draft of lambs. The top price on the day was $230 for a line of 365 1st X ewes Mar 2015 drop Oct shorn A/C Flagg Family Trust “Townswell Park” Moombooldool to Spring Creek Pastoral Co, Cootamundra. The 2nd draft from the same vendor of 225 1st X ewes Mar/Apr 2015 drop Oct shorn also sold for $230, to Duncombe & Co, Crookwell.

The presentation for the Best Presented Pen of Ewe Lambs, sponsored by SJ Tonacia & Co of Mt Beckom Stud, was awarded to Flagg Family Trust “Townswell Park” Moombooldool. The pen of 365 March 2015 drop ewes Oct shorn were by Mt Beckom Stud rams and ex Pooginok/Goolgumbla blood ewes. This is the 7th time in 12 years the Flagg ewes have been awarded the ribbon.

The young ewes were all ideal for immediate joining; from mixed farming opeartions, many had been grazed on lucerne & stubbles, with supplementary feeding. The majority of ewes made from $165-$180/hd. 3,827 ewe lambs averaged $186, $14 less than last year.

The sale was conducted by Mark Flagg Livestock & Property Pty Ltd & Findlays Barellan.

SJ Tonacia & Co “Mount Beckom” sold 2 rams @ $900 to MA & JA Kenny, Colinroobie.
White Suffolks – A & M Dissegna “Warburn” sold 2 rams @ $1,500 to repeat buyer S & CH Robb, Ungarie, who also took home another draft at $1,350. The Irvin Bros “Cooee” sold 2 rams @ $1,000 to Fixter Family Trust, Yalgogrin North, and another draft of 2 rams @ $1,000 to K & D Studholme, Weethalle. Mitch Hawker “Warrick Park” sold 2 rams @ $1,000 to PJ & TP Looby, and 2 rams @ $1,000 to HW & EJ Rowling, Ungarie.

The first draft of 198 lambs topped the market @ $195, with the 2nd run of 380 lambs@ $187, draft of 662 lambs averaged $188.50.

2014 FX Ewe lambs make $224

An outstanding season on the tablelands underpinned prices at Barellan on Friday 6th February. Pen upon pen was started at $200, making to a top of $224 on 3 occasions, with a sale average of $195. The 2014 drop ewe lambs averaged $200 and the SIL mixed age FX ewes averaged $171. Buying strength was from Crookwell, Blayney, Oberon, Cootamundra, Bendigo, Forbes, Wagga and surrounding areas.

A presentation for the Best Presented Pen of Ewe Lambs, sponsored by SJ Tonacia & Co of Mt Beckom Stud, was awarded to Flagg Family Trust “Townswell Park” Moombooldool. This line of 325 March 14 drop Oct shorn ewe lambs went on to equal top the sale @ $224 and were purchased by Duncombe & Co Crookwell.

Results of 2014 Annual Barellan Invitation Ram Sale BARELLAN RAMS TOP AT $2100

Quality underpinned outstanding results as return and volume buyers competed strongly on the best genetics available at the Annual Barellan Invitation Ram Sale held on Wednesday 8th October 2014.

Amando Dissegna and son Mark Dissegna of “Warburn” sold the top price pen of rams on the day for $2,100/hd to Joe Kelleher  of West Wyalong.

Poll Dorsets The top price rams on the day were sold by A & M Dissegna “Warburn”, selling 2 rams to GJ & JF Kelleher, West Wyalong @ $2,100. Joe Kelleher also took home another two drafts from the same vendor @ $2,000 & $1,900 respectively. SJ Tonacia & Co “Mount Beckom” sold 2 rams @ $1,600 to Breed & Hutchinson A/c Eckley.

White Suffolks The Irvin Bros “Cooee” offered an outstanding run of White Suffolk rams and sold the top two rams @ $2,000 to Lewis Family Farming, Tullibigeal, who also took home 4 rams @ $1,900. Fixter Family Trust, Yalgogrin North, secured a run from the same vendor @ $1,900. Complementing their magnificent run of Poll Dorset rams, A & M Dissegna sold their top drafts to repeat buyer S & CH Robb, Ungarie @ $1,550 & $1,350. “Warburn” sold another run to Findlays Barellan A/c Male @ $1,450.

Border Leicesters SJ Tonacia “Mount Beckom” sold the top rams on the day to DG & HJ Foy “Quandong Park” Barellan @ $1,600, with other drafts @ $1,550, $1,500 and $1,400 respectively. Return buyer Mamari Pastoral Co, Goolgowi, purchased 4 rams @ $1,350 and the Daniher family, Ungarie, purchased rams @ $1,250 from Mount Beckom Stud.
